Kyoshi Tim VanDenover is one of the most respected martial arts teachers in the USA. Sensei Tim started his training in 1971 under Sensei James Hawks in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With over 50 years of martial arts experience, he still strives to increase his knowledge. He has been honored with 7 Hall of Fame awards, 2 from the Action Martial Arts Magazine, 2 from the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame, and most recently the Masters Hall of Fame Silver Lifetime Achievement award. Shihan VanDenover holds the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Orthodox.

Rising Sun Karate Head Instructor

Kyoshi Tim VanDenover is one of the most respected martial arts teachers in the USA. With over 50 years of martial arts experience, he still strives to increase his knowledge. He has been honored with 7 Hall of Fame awards, 3 from the Action Martial Arts Magazine (as recently as January of 2011), 2 from the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame, and most recently the Masters Hall of Fame Silver Lifetime Achievement award. Kyoshi VanDenover holds the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Orthodox.

Sensei VanDenover is an 8th Degree Black Belt Okinawan Shorin Ryu. In addition, he has received from Japanese Chanbara creator Tanabe Tetsundo 3rd Degree Black Belt in Choken (Long Sword); he has also received 5th degree Belt Black in Kodachi (Short Sword).

Rich Klaas

Rising Sun head Batto-Do Instructor

Sensei Rich is the head Batto-Do (Japanese Swordsmanship) instructor at Rising Sun Martial Arts and has been teaching it since the year 2000. He had his first martial arts class at age 5. He has since explored and practiced many types of martial arts including Kung Fu, Muay-Thai and Karate. He started training Muay Thai in the 90s. He is a 5th degree black belt at Iai-Batto-Do .

He has competed in many TaiKai (tournaments) since 1999 including the Goodwill games hosted by Fumo Demura.

Sensei Rich was also a national champion from 2000 to 2008.
